SMEF is implementing the ‘Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Pilot’ (STEP) scheme in Somaliland, which seeks to increase the employability and earnings potential of young women in this region. This initiative runs through two distinct tracks of support, in line with the overarching approach of the SMEF programme
Skills training courses: 125 young women are being trained in areas such as administrative, tailoring, logistics and procurement, hospitality and sorting, quality assurance and supplier outreach for gums and resins
Entrepreneurship skills training: 125 young women entrepreneurs have been provided with comprehensive training on how to effectively start-up and grow their small businesses into profitable enterprises. They will also participate in a Business Plan Competition upon completion of the course.
